McCOY _ Sgt. Robert Christopher (Awasis) It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Robert Christopher (Awasis) McCoy announce his death in Iraq on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at the age of 25 years. He was born May 4, 2005 in Victoria, Texas to Larry Awasis and Denise Awasis Light. He played football for Refugio H.S. in Refugio, TX, Michael A. Riffel H.S. in Regina, SK and Lord Beaverbrook H.S. in Calgary, AB. He also spent time in the Canadian Reserves before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1999. In 2001, he became part of the elite Special Forces Unit - Amphibious Reconnaissance and served in the Iraq War of 2003. He was awarded the Marine C. Good Conduct Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Rifle and Pistol Expert Badge, among other awards. He loved being a Marine, at last having the brothers he always wanted. He also loved music and taking photos. After meeting and getting to know many Iraqis, who were glad to see the Marines, he joined Triple Canopy in 2004 as a Personal Security Specialist and returned to the country to be part of the new Iraq - a free Iraq. At the time of his death, he was protecting US diplomats in Basrah, Iraq. His baby brother Tristan James Light and his grandpa Dave S. McCoy Jr. were there to meet him on September 7, 2005 when he entered heaven. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that who ever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 Memorial Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church (9920 Fairmount Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. and at Thunderchild Tech. Institute (Thunderchild 1st Nation near Turtleford, SK) on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse (Operation Christmas Child/Shoebox Campaign, Phone 1-800-663-6500), 20 Hopewell Way N.E.
