Mary P. Schwind, 85 of Evansville, Ind., and formerly of Benton passed away at 2:41 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Deaconess Hospital. Mary was born August 7, 1927 in Benton, the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Carlton) Smith and was a 1944 graduate of Benton High School. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church and previously a 59 year member of First Christian Church and a member of Mary Circle. Mary retired in 1990 from Inland Container after 25 years as a sales service coordinator. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 555, Past Queen of Daughters of the Nile and Isis Patrol member. Mary was a wonderful wife and lady. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jon and Sharon Boyles for their love, care and support. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Elvin "Lefty" Schwind of Evansville, Ind.; sisters, Norma Page of Ewing, Joyce Ann Thomas (Bob) of West Frankfort, and Linda Akerman (Louis) of Silverdale, Wash.; brothers, Ralph Smith (Virginia) of Whittington, Robert Smith (Lorene) of Royalton, and C. Jack Smith (Frances) of Benton, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Martha VanDyke and Fay Krapf. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue in Evansville, Ind. with the Rev. Darren Mirante and Pastor Rod Hoschouer officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 31 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel.
