Raymond Shatto was a serial monogamist. Family members lost track of how many marriages he had and, generally, lost track of him as well.

News item in Spirit Lake Beacon, 10 September 1931, states that he had been married twice in the last year. Below are his known marriages.

Ray also had a number of problems with the law that put him in and out of jail in several states, usually involving forgery, bad checks and confidence games. He evidently found some peace in his last years

Ray Shatto, 63, an employee the last two weeks at the Warm Springs State Hospital, died Tuesday afternoon in his living quarters on the hospital grounds.

Shatto had been dead several hours when found by fellow employees. Coroner Arthur A. Longfellow reported Shatto died a natural death.

He was born in Spencer, Iowa, March 20, 1909, and resided in Minnesota and Texas before he came to Montana. He had resided at Missoula, Galen and Deer Lodge a number of years before his employment at the State Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lucille Shatto, St. Paul, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Glen Lowe, Mrs. John Snyder, both of Sanborn, Iowa; Mrs. Pearl Beving, Spencer, Iowa, and two brothers, Lester, Omaha and Glen, Spencer.

The body is at the Finnegan Co. Funeral Home

SHATTO -- Graveside services will be conducted for the late Ray Shatto at 9 o'clock this (Saturday) morning in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. The Rev. Ervin Rymes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
