In the late 1880's John went to North Dakota where his daughter's family had moved. He lived there for a brief time and then returned to Tennessee where he married a third time. Details of this wife and marriage have not been determined.
According to his niece, Kate (Allen) McFarland, John fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy. Kate also states that John was buried in the family cemetery of her husband, Dr. John W. McFarland.

Gravesite Details
McFarland Cemetery is on private land, about 100 yds. north of Coles Ferry Pike across from Friendship Christian School. The condition of the cemetery and gravestones is unknown.
