Dr. Gerald James

EDEN -- Dr. Gerald B. James, 70, of 643 Highland Drive, died Tuesday at his home. Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist church of Eden, of which he was a member.

Born in Stanly County, he was the founding president of Rockingham Community College and an army veteran of World War II. Among his many civic activities, he was past chairman of the Morehead Memorial Hospital Board, past chairman of the Cherokee Council of the boys Scouts of America's board of directors and a member of the board of directors of the Eden United Way and the Eden Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his wife, DeLauris "Dee" B. James; daughter, Carol Thompson of Atlanta; sons John M. James of Atlanta, Glenn W. James of Waco, Texas; one grandchild.

Visitation will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
