OBITUARY: SALEM - Helen Marie Colburn, 94, was born in Sparks, Nebraska, to Frank and Pearl Copeland on May 8, 1919. She was born at home, a sod house, the third of nine children.

Helen grew up in nearby Valentine, Nebraska and attended school there. On August 15, 1936 Helen married Arthur Austin Colburn in Winner, South Dakota and became a dairyman's wife. In 1950 they moved to Woodburn, Oregon and later to Salem where Helen enrolled in the Nursing Program at Chemeketa College, earning her LPN License. She started her nursing career at the Oregon State Hospital, worked later as an Administrator at several Nursing Homes and ended her working career as the Company Nurse for Agripac in Salem, retiring at the age of 75.

Helen enjoyed reading the Bible, loved to babysit and helping children with their schoolwork, excelled at spelling, enjoyed being with people and people enjoyed being with her.

Helen is survived by four children: Frank (Jean) Colburn; Janice (Garland) Courter; Donna (Alan) Hart; and Ron (Sharon) Colburn. She had 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
