Katherine, of the Sea Gate Community in Wilmington, died at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Care Center at the age of 91.
She was born the daughter of the late Carl John Hunt, Sr. and Helen Boege Hunt.
She was the widow of the late Coy Laneau McKenzie, Sr. and was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
Katherine was a faithful member of Sea Gate Baptist Church since 1921 serving the Lord by teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School as recently as one month ago.
She was also very involved in the community where she was active in many organizations and volunteered extensively throughout her life.
Second to her relationship with the Lord, spending time with family was the highest priority in Katherine’s life. Her involvement in the lives of her grandchildren and great grandchildren was especially important to her.
She is survived by her son, Coy L. McKenzie, Jr. and his wife Barbara L. McKenzie; three grandchildren, Angela M. Wasson and husband Bradley, Kelli M. Conahan and husband Michael, and Coy L. McKenzie, III; four great grandchildren, Christopher M. Wasson, Blair E. Wasson, John M. Conahan and Kendal M. Conahan.
