Harpo was born on June 15, 1916, in Delano, Calif., the son of Joe and Alexandrina Costa Alves. He grew up in California where he worked as the foreman for the John Rodrigues and Sons Dairy and the Alves Bros. Dairy in Chino, Calif., before retiring and moving to Buhl, Idaho.
Harpo married Mary M. Rodrigues in Artesia, Calif., on Nov. 25, 1940.
Harpo is survived by his three sons, John H. Alves, Herkie Alves and Alan J. Alves, all of Buhl, Idaho; one sister, Mary Costa of San Leandro, Calif. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Alves on Sept. 6, 1998.
