John Robert Schommer, 80, of Sturgeon Bay and formerly of Milwaukee, passed away on May 14, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 3, 1932, in Milwaukee to Raymond and Rose (Hayeland) Schommer. John served his country in the US Air Force for 21 years and retired with the rank of Major; afterwards, he enjoyed a career as a corporate pilot. Piano, flying and family were his passions. He was also very devoted to our Lord and blessed mother.
On July 25, 1953, John married Jeanne Anne Mueller, who preceded him in death on August 31, 1998.
Survivors include 4 children, Mike (Pam) Schommer, Pocahontas, IL; Bob (Clara) Schommer, Charlotte, NC; Steve Schommer, Arlington Heights, IL; and Kathy (Jim) Paro, Wales, WI; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Gladys) Schommer; 3 sisters, Kay (Bob) Mueller, Ray Ellen Gruenwald and Mary Lynne (Tom) Hoffer. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jim Gruenwald.
Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Random Lake, WI on Saturday, May 18, at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at the church for visitation on Friday, May 17, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Forbes Funeral Home is assisting the family.
