Well Known Woman Succumbs To Illness

Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Harrington Maltby, wife of Guy Maltby and well known throughout this community died Saturday morning. She has been in frail health for a long time and about two weeks before her death submitted to an operation for the amputation of a leg, an infection has become serious. Her death occurred at the hospital in Oceanside. Born in Rosemount, Minnesota 73 years ago, Mrs. Maltby had lived in California since 1904 and in Carlsbad since 1916. The family home here is at the corner of Highland Drive and Oak Streets, one of the finest homes on the coast at the time of its construction. The Maltby's lived in Oceanside before coming to Carlsbad. Survivors of Mrs. Maltby are her husband, four sons, David Guy Maltby. of Pasadena, Ca., Frederick Cook Maltby, of North Hollywood, Charles D.Maltby, of San Antonio, Texas and Miles Herbert Maltby of New Jersey, and three daughters, Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Maltby, Callian of San Diego, Mrs. Louise Maltby, Leesman of San Diego and Mrs. Ben Myers(Gertrude Maltby, of San Luis Rey. She also leaves three brothers in San Diego, Herbert, Stephen and Reuben Harrington, two in Minnesota, Dr. Charles Harrington of Minneapolis and Sward of Farmington, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral Services were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 am at Berry's mortuary chapel in Oceanside, Followed by interment in Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego. Rev. Arthur Dodd, Episcopalian minister and friend of the family for many years, conducted the service which was attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors of the deceased and her family. Pallbearers were Wm. Hagg, C. F. Drew and four grandsons of the deceased.Mrs. Maltby was a woman of great ambition and energy before her health failed. Generous and neighborly, she was vitally interested in the progress and welfare of her community and so long as she was able took an active part in public affairs. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
