Dr. Kach T. Becklian, 78, a dentist and formerly of Waukegan, died Thursday in Westmoreland Nursing Home, Lake Forest. Dr. Becklian was known as "the flying dentist" in World War II, flying a plane to serve soldiers on remote Pacific islands. He was also the lone survivor of a 1948 plane crash that killed three people at an airport in French Lick, Ind. In the 1950s, Dr. Becklian's horse Dark Grier was a well-known racer at Arlington Park. Dr. Becklian was on staff at St. Therese Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Constance; two daughters, Pamela Hollender and Barbalyn Machowski; two sisters; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave., Waukegan.
