Kerosene Burns Prove Fatal to Mrs. H. Diener

Explosion Causes Death, Mrs. John Schoeder Dies, Injuries Fatal to William A Kaehny

Mrs. Harold Diener

While preparing breakfast, at about 7 o'clock last Wednesday morning Mrs. Harold Diener, residing at Orchard Grove, poured kerosene on burning coals to hasten the fire. An explosion followed and completed enveloped Mrs. Diener in flames. She was alone in the house at the time, and with her clothing burning, she ran for help across the road to the cheese factory where her husband was employed. Mr. Diener frantically extinguished her burning clothing, which had severely burned her body. He then wrapped his coat about her and ran to the home of Art Schacht, a neighbor, for help, and then summoned Drs. I Bemis of Batavia and N. Hausmann of Kewaskum who administered first aid. As her condition was critical, an ambulance was called and she was immediately taken to the St. Joseph's Community hospital at West Bend where everything possible was done to make her comfortable and save her life, but to no avail. At about 4 o'clock in the afternoon she passed away, her husband being at her bedside to the last.

The interior of the kitchen was damaged considerably and one window was blown out of the dining room.

The accidental death of Mrs. Diener was a great shock, not only to her grief-stricken husband, parents, sisters, and brother, but to the entire community as well, as her cheerful disposition won the love of everybody she met. She was in the prime of womanhood, having attained the age of 21 years, 11 months, and 10 days. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eisentraut of the town of Farmington and was born December 27, 1910. She grew up and attended the Boltonville grade school and graduated from the eighth grade with the class of 1925. She became the wife of Harold Diener of Batavia on November 26, 1930. Soon after their marriage, they went to housekeeping at the residence of the Orchard Grove cheese factory where her husband was employed as cheesemaker. Besides her grief-stricken husband and parents, she leaves two sisters, Iva and Arline, and one brother, Earl, all at home.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the home of her parents at 1:30 o'clock to the Boltonville Evangelical church where services were conducted by Rev. Block, assisted by Rev. Ben Marshman of Markesan, the latter a cousin of Mrs. Chas. Eisentraut, and Rev. G. Bloede of Hartford. The latter was pastor of the church at the time Mrs. Diener was confirmed and he spoke impressively of her Christian life, which was exemplary in every way. She was a faithful member of the church and teacher of the children's class in the Sunday school. Her casket was banked with many beautiful flowers. Burial took place in the Union cemetery at Boltonville. The pallbearers were six cousins of the deceased, namely, Roy Weber, Lavern Marshman, Albert Albright, Maurice Eisentraut, Claude Held, and Clifford Stautz. The honorary pallbearers were Myrtle Koth, Marjorie and Iva Woog, Leona Geib, Elwood Oetlinger, and Orvil Frohmann.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Rhode and daughter, Mrs. Art Rhode; Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stark; Mrs. Walter Wangerin and daughter Blanche; Mrs. Arno Brusewitz; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Zarling; Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Marshman; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weber and sons, Roy and Edward, of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Baker; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marshman, daughters, Inez and Edna, and son Ralph, of Colgate; George Marshman; Herb Marshman; Mrs. Charles Ames; Mrs. Sarah Duerrwaechter, Miss Eunice Holdredge, of Minnesota; Mrs. P.
