He was preceeded in death by his wife of 53 years, Luz Pena; a daughter, Elodia Mungia; and a grandson, Jose Samuel Tijerina.
He is survived by four daughters, Angelita (Cody) Perez and Minerva (David) Pulido of Corpus Christi, Texas, Gloria DeAlejandro (Ricardo) of Richmond Hills, Georgia and Rosalinda (Eddie) Rodriguez of Portland, Texas; four sons, Jesses (Janeth) Tijerina of Kerrville, Texas, Jose (Sylvia) Tijerina of Ceres, California, Juan Manuel (Magda) Tijerina of Corpus Christi, Texas and Richard (Charlene) Tijerina of Springville, Utah; 33 grandchidlren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
He was a World War II Veteran and fought in the D-Day Normandy Beach invasion, Battle of the Bulge of the Rhine River and was a purple heart recipient.
The family would like to extend our gratitude and sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors and staff of the Renal Unit of Christus Spohn Shoreline for their understanding and much needed help during our trying time. Thank you for making our father feel special during a very hard time in his life.
Visitation will begin on Saturday and Sunday at his home, 1413 Ray Dr. between the hours of 10:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 26, 2006 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery on 8200 Old Brownsville Rd.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Tijerina, Adrian Catnu, Elijah Tijerina, Richard Tijerina, David Pulido Jr. and Jesses Tijerina.
