"Genealogical Records and Sketches of the Descendants of William Thomas of Hardwick, Massachusetts," by Amos Russell Thomas, M.D. F.A. Davis Publisher, 1891, available from Books.Google.com and/or the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, includes a section on genealogy of S B Thomas and family.

His death record notes him as "Capt. Samuel B. Thomas."

The "National Aegis," 22 April 1840 notes that the funeral of "Captain Samuel B. Thomas, aged 61, will be from the Unitarian Meeting House, tomorrow, at 3 o'clock. Friends and relaties are invited to attend."
