Robert Graduated from Hillsborgh High School in 1963, and Purdue University in 1969 with a Bachelors of Science Degree. He severed in the Unites States Navy as a pilot for 20 years earning the Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal, beginning in 1966, and retiring in 1986. After retirement, he worked as a boat mechanic.
