Father: Donald Wintersteen
Mother: Myrtle Ballinger

Leslie Rex Wintersteen, 74, of Battle Creek, passed away unexpectedly on June 6 surrounded by his loving family.

Leslie was born in Homer on May 27, 1939 to Donald and Myrtle (Ballinger) Wintersteen.

On August 10, 1981 he married Beatrice Green McCarty in Ovieda, FL.

Leslie was a dry waller for Region South in Orlando, Florida for 25 years.

He was a part of the building of Walt Disney World as well as Universal Studios!

When he moved to Battle Creek in 1996 he worked for Old's Heating until he retired in 2011.

His family remembers him as being very skilled with wood working.

He could make anything that you needed if you gave him a piece of wood!

Beatrice has a one of a kind paper plate holder that Leslie made for her to add to her cow collection! The plates are held in between the barn and the fence.

He also made a one of a kind ring washer plant holder for her mother, which was greatly enjoyed too!

Leslie was also an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as a sportsman who was very loyal to the Atlanta Braves as their biggest fan.

When he relaxed he would watch western movies. He would watch them all day long if he could get away with it!

Leslie's most favorite moments though were with his family. He was a big family man with lots of love to share with all of them.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; sons, Keith Wintersteen of Florida, Harry McCarty and Ralph (Cathy) McCarty of Battle Creek; daughters, Debra Dennis, Kris (Sam) Arent, Jody Emmons, and Melissa (Gary) Gilzen all of Florida; 17 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Wintersteen of Homer, Robert (Blondell) Wintersteen of Albion, Dennis (Donna) Wintersteen of Marshall, and Donald (Lynn) Wintersteen of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Myrtle; 2 sisters, Donna, Mary and 5 brothers, Richard, Clarence, Walter, Randy, Kenneth.

Interment will be held at a later date.
