William married Elinor Clark, daughter of Hugh and Martha Jordan Clark, on 22 Dec 1768 in Holy Trinity Church, Wilmington, Delaware.

The "History of Coshocton County" (Ohio) states, "William Addy, on Christmas day of the year 1806 entered the southwest quarter of section 4, range 4. He was from near Harper's Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia) and brought with him five sons and four daughters. (Some of the children had married by this time). Malechi and Enoch Jones, two brothers, came about the same time from Virginia. They married two of the Addy girls and lived on their father-in-law's place.

They had 10 children, Martha who married Malachi Jones, Hugh, John, Nancy, who married Enoch Jones, Mary who married Rezin Baker, Johanna, who married David Maple, Robert Addy who married first Elizabeth Hughes and second Ann Norris, William Addy who married Wealtha Ann Jones, Thomas, who married first Nelly Marlett and second Mary Shafer, and James who married Rebecca Warden.

On page 17 of volume one of "Cemeteries of Guernsey County, Ohio" by the Ohio Genealogical Society, Guernsey County Chapter under Hopewell Cemetery it says "Earliest birth date we found in this cemetery was that of William Addy, 1750. Earliest death date was also that of William Addy, 1827."

However, some Addy researchers (notably Ruth Safford Maple who wrote an Addy genealogy) believe that this may be an error and William Addy I may not be buried here. There is no gravestone for him or his wife, only the one for his son William Addy II and his wife Weltha Ann Addy. They believe the dates from the son William AddyII were mistakenly read and copied down for the father William Addy I. William Addy I and wife Eleanor Clark Addy may be buried here in Hopewell Cemetery in unmarked graves or somewhere else, perhaps in Coshocton County.
