Eldest son of Major John Elsdale Molson, MD, and Mary {Leeson} Molson of Montreal, and of Chelmsford, Sussex, England. This branch of the Molson family emigrated from Canada to England shortly following their first child's birth
Harold Elsdale Molson grew up in England, and studied law at university there. He was a Barrister and civil servant for 32 years (1914-1946), returning to Canada about 1919/1920, where he lived in Vancouver, British Columbia for 27 years until his death at age 55
During the Second World War he served with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (the Princess Pat's), rising to the rank of Major prior to his death early in 1946 [Note: some post-1946 sources attribute to him the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel]
He married Lila Marion Malkin (1905 – 1979) of Vancouver, BC. In 1946, Harold and Lila resided at 1775 West 40th Avenue, Vancouver
He had a heart attack (cardiac infarction) on February 3rd, 1946, and died 1 1/2 days later at Shaughnessy Hospital, Vancouver. His father-in-law, Mr W H Malkin, was the informant on the death registration document (which contains several inaccuracies). Interment at Ocean View Burial Park took place on February 8, 1946
Major Molson's death was deemed to have been as a result of service with the Canadian Active Service Forces, and accordingly was recorded in the Canadian War Graves Registers. It was noted in the Register that an International War Graves Commission headstone was not permitted at the time of cremation and inurnment
Harold and Lila had two sons, John Brian Molson (1935-) and Hugh Dougall Molson (1936-2007)
