Mrs. Emily Karr, 90, Dies at Home in Shirley
SHIRLEY - Mrs. Emily K. Karr, 90, a pioneer resident of Shirley, died at 5 a. m. (day light) Wednesday at her home here. Death was attributed to the debilities of age. The body was taken to the Stubblefield Memorial home, Nor mal. Funeral services will be at p. m. (daylight) Friday at Shirley Christian church. Burial will be in Scrogins cemetery north of Shirley.
Active In Church.
Mrs. Karr spent nearly all her life in and around the community of Shirley. She was active in church and community work, was member of the Shirley Chris tian church and a charter mem ber of the Shirley Order of East ern Star. Emily Katherine Jackson was born at Kingston, Madison county, Ky., Dec. 28, 1856, a daughter of Margaret Thomas and Henry Lee Jackson, Kentucky pioneers. Her maternal ancestors had settled Jamestown in 1607, and her paternal ancestors had fought in the Revolutionary war and in the Indian wars of the settlement of Kentucky. The family came to Illinois by covered wagon in April, 1863, settling at Shirley.
Two Children Survive.
She was married Dec. 17, 1879, to Harvey B. Karr, a son of pioneer McLean county residents who had settled here in 1829. Mr. Karr died May 10, 1895. Three children, Harvey Lloyd, Thomas J., and an infant daughter, preceded Mrs. Karr in death. Surviving children are Mrs. Harry B Quinn and Lee J. Karr, both of Shirley. Also surviving are eight grand children, six great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Mary S Cutting of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Adeline D. Quinn of Phoenix, Ariz. A brother, George L. Jackson, Gold Butte, Mont., preceded her in death.
