Earth Child Dies When Hit By Car
EARTH (Special) – Amanda Lee SHELBY, 5, was fatally injured at 4:15 p.m. Monday when she was struck by an automobile as she was crossing U. S. Hwy. 70 in front of her home here.
Driver of the car was identified by Earth officers as Allen TEMPLE, 2724 62nd St., Lubbock. TEMPLE told officers the youngster walked across the road and started back, running in front of the car.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at a Littlefield hospital.
Funeral services are pending with Parson-Ellis-Singleton Funeral Home in Earth.
Survivors include her parents Mr. and Mrs. Doug SHELBY of Earth; one brother, Randy and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. BIRGE of DeQueen, Ark.
The fatality was the 100th of the year in traffic on the South Plains. The total on the same date last year was 90, compared to 1[?]0 for the same period during the record year of 1959.

EARTH (Special) – Services for Amanda Lee SHELBY, 5 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doug SHELBY, will be at 2:30 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church here with the Rev. M. B. BALDWIN, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Earth Cemetery under direction of Parsons-Ellis-Singleton Funeral Home of Earth.
The youngster was fatally injured at 4:15 p.m. Monday when she was struck by an automobile as she was crossing U.S. Hwy. 70 in front of her home. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a Littlefield Hospital.
Other survivors include a brother, Randy, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. BIRGE of DeQueen, Ark.
Pallbearers will be Donald RUNYON, Ronnie SMITH, Doug LEWIS and Tommy WHEATLEY.
