Roger James Burns, left this life May 1, 2012 with his wife of 44 years and family by his side in Marysville, CA at the age of 76. He died of heart disease. He was born September 10, 1935 in Washington, Missouri. He was raised on a farm in Clover Bottom, Missouri for his first 12 years, then moved to Alhambra, CA.

He graduated high school from San Gabriel Mission High School. He studied and attained Associates and Bachelor's degrees from Cal Poly Pomona.

Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 5 years during the Korean War. He specialized in Morse code.

He worked as a farm seed representative for many years with Northrup King & Co. in Los Angeles and Yuba City, CA. He also lived and worked for a time in Yerington, NV in the same occupation at Lyon County Farm Supply. He then returned to Yuba City, studied to attain a State license in Pest Control and worked in that field for 10 years before retiring.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the VFW.

Roger found happiness in fishing, hunting and camping. He loved the outdoors, westerns and John Wayne movies. He held an amateur radio license and spent many hours on the ham radio with the handle name Birddog. He had a great sense of humor and a kind heart, looking to the needs of the less fortunate by lending a helping hand or a meal.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Jesse Burns and 2 sisters, Dolores and Lorraine. He is survived by his wife, Joanne of Yuba City; sister Severine Lozano of West Covina, daughter Linda Brewer (Chris) of Agoura Hills; daughter Michelle Sullivan (Gary) of Thousand Oaks and son Michael Burns. He cherished his 4 loving grandchildren; Bo Clark, Erin and Kelsey Sullivan, Jesse Brewer and many nieces and nephews.

A family service will be held at a military National Cemetery in the future, no date determined at this time.
