George (Rev.) Mason Haney
Died: 11-17-2004 JOHNSON CITY ? The Rev. George Mason Haney, 81, of North Greenwood Drive, Johnson City, died Wednesday at his home.

Rev. Haney was a native of Greene County and had lived in Johnson City since 1946.

He was a former pastor at East Fairview Avenue Baptist Church, New Harvest Baptist Church, a former assistant pastor at the Johnson City Baptist Temple, and a retired nursing assistant at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Rev. Haney was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve. He had served in the Ninth Infantry Division, 47th Regiment ?The Old Reliables,? during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of first sergeant.

He was a member of Harbor Light Missionary Baptist Church.

Rev. Haney is survived by his wife: Viola Fay Bailey Haney; a daughter: Kathy Jane Britt of Jonesborough; three sons: Ronald G. Haney of Bulls Gap, Allen L. Haney of Johnson City, and Claude D. Haney of the home; two grandsons: Shannon Haney and Brandon Haney, both of Johnson City; a granddaughter: Cheyanne Haney of Sugar Hill, Ga.; four great-grandchildren: Chynna Longo, Tristan Hopkins, Kendall Hopkins, and Ryne Haney; a sister: Margaret Whitamore of Florida; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law: Emory Bailey, Albert Bailey, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bailey; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend: Nancy Grubb.

He was a son of the late Calvin W. and Jenny Grace Cloyd Haney and was also preceded in death by seven brothers: Mark Haney, Edgar M.E. Haney, Bob C. Haney, James L. Haney, Don D. Haney, William B. Haney and Andrew ?Dutch? Haney; three sisters: Sannie E. Goode, Polly Ann Goode, and Macie L. Talley; and two half-brothers, David Carl Haney and Fred D. Haney.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2001 Oakland Ave., Johnson City.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o?clock in the South Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Howard Estep and the Rev. David Burrell will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 2 o?clock Saturday afternoon in Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 and travel in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be deacons and men of Harbor Light Baptist Church, including: Steve Murray, Gene Gouge, Tom Orton Jr., Larry Maupin, George Cole, and Larry Miller.
