Rose Ortiz Fulcher, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away onMonday, June 10, 2013.
Rose is survived by her four children, Joan Bradley and her husband, Gerard, Michael Lee Fulcher and his wife, Julie, Leslie Cylke and her husband, John and Charles Fulcher, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Our mom was born in what is now the ghost town of Kelly, NM and grew up in Magdalena and Socorro.
As a young woman, she moved with her mother, Lucia Ortiz, to Albuquerque, where she worked at what was then the Albuquerque Hilton Hotel. It was there that she met our dad, Joe Fulcher. Mom told us shortly before she passed away, that the part of her life that gave her the most joy was raising her four children. Rose poured her life into that effort and was very proud of each one. As her grandchildren began to come along she rejoiced again, and there was nothing she wanted more that to have all of them around her. Even as she lost some of her memory later in life, "Nana" never forgot any of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose always remembered their birthdays and when they would be coming to see her.
Rose was very close to her own mother, "Baba" and it was her great satisfaction that she had been able to have her mother live with her for all of her mother's life. Like Baba, Rose loved company, and if no one was coming or dinner, then she would invite someone. Rose welcomed everyone with a smile and always asked, "When are you coming to see me?" In her final illness she specifically said how much she had enjoyed her 90 years of life, up to the very end.
Rose loved her friends, dancing, Lobo basketball cooking, golf, and her dogs. Her children wish to especially thank her wonderful caregivers, who became her friends as well, Magda, Edith, Carol and Judith and the staff at Ambercare Hospice. We acknowledge the continued support that our dad gave our mom throughout the years.
Rose was a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where she was active in the Catholic Daughters.
