FIND BODY OF KEVIN CORRIGAN 5-1/2 MILES DOWN RIVER
The body of Kevin Corrigan was found Sunday, 5.5 miles down river from where he drowned at precisely four and a half days after the fatality.

Several of the 18 men from Pontiac and Ottawa river resue squads searching the Vermilion River found the body in about three feet of water and trapped in brush at the river's side. The site, 5.5 miles downriver, or nothwest, of the Mill Street dam accident scene is past the Pontiac Sportsman's club and near the border of Pontiac and Rooks Creek townships.

The body was recovered at 11 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. Corrigan, 29 and from Pontiac, drowned about 11 p.m. last Tuesday when a motorboat overturned and spilled him and the boat's operator in the rain swollen river. The operator was rescued.

Besides Pontiac firemen and police, the Ottawa River Resue Unit and several fire departments from nearby towns were involved in the search.

Rescue workers had assumed Saturday that Corrigan's body was trapped beneath the Mill Street dam, and were waiting for the river to lower so they could get closer to the dam.

But William Stevens of the Ottawa squad told Pontiac firemen it would be hard to tell if the body had immediately been carried downriver after the accident or if it had remained under the dam but washed away when no one saw it. It then could have remained submerged until the water level went down.

What really happened probably never will be determined one fireman said.

The search that began Sunday involved eight Pontiac resuers and at least 10 from the Ottawa squad an all volunteer group which specializes in water rescues and recoveries.

The funeral for Kevin Corrigan 29 will be at 10 a.ml. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic church, Msgr. Joseph J. O'Dea will officate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Behrendt Funeral Home. The rosary will be said at 8 p.m.

He was born Oct. 29, 1950 in Pontiac, a son of John and Helen (Kerrins) Corrigan.

He was a laborer for the Austin Company at the Caterpillar plant.

Surviving are his mother; four brothers, John J., Terrence J., Patrick j. and Michael J., all of Pontiac; and a sister, Keran Johnson, Bloomington.

His father preceded him in death.

The family suggests memoirials to St. Mary's Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
