The first Baptist church was filled to capacity Sunday afternoon when funeral services were conducted at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. Joe F. Grizzle, pastor for Charles R. Melton, aged 39, farmer of 10 miles west of Littlefield, who died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony hospital, Amarillo.

The deceased had been on a trip to Addington, Okla., to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Melton, and was returning to Littlefield when his death occurred. It was necessary for him to change trains at Amarillo, and it was while waiting for the train to bring him home that he collapsed near the depot, and was found in an unconscious condition by one of the police force in Amarillo. He was taken to the St. Anthony hospital where he as found to have ulcerated stomach, and underwent an operation. Peretonitis set in soon however and death followed.

Hammons Funeral Home received the body from the 11:40 a.m. train Sunday, and had charge of burial arrangements, interment being in the Littlefield cemetery.

He has been a resident of this section of past seven years, and was a member of the First Baptist church, Amherst. Loved by his family, neighbors and friends, and a citizen to be proud of, he was held in the highest esteem by all.
