Twice Told Tales Of Abandonment

Frank was the second born of nine children of Thomas Porter Sargent and Ida Mansel. They lived on Homer Street in Chicago Illinois. Thomas was an artist of paper according to the 1900 census. Other children were bookkeepers/real estate agents and Frank was listed as a machinist and later as a salesman for duplicating machines. Frank suffered from alcohol use disorder which explains why his wife's family paid him one thousand dollars to leave the marriage.

Frank got together with my great grandmother Beulah Strong Wilber in 1902 in Chicago. Maybe she met him while attending Rochester Business Institute which she founded.

As a result of that union my grandfather Wilbur Strong Sargent was born the following year. He is pictured here at his office at the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles

Frank and Beulah were married August 26, 1903. They divorced in 1907. Beulah's family paid him one thousand dollars to leave Beulah. Beulah's sister Laura did not like Frank due to his being a high functioning alcoholic . My father remembered his wife having a blue skin tone ( due to alcohol use disorder) Also he was later chased out of the house by Anna Dennis who was the mother in law of his son Wilbur.

I have one movie film of him taken by his son Wilbur at their home in Glendale.

Frank Sargent was a petite and elegant looking man., Checking the US Census, Frank was a boarder and traveling salesman during that time.

Four or five years after the birth of Wilbur and a divorce n 1906 Frank married a Norwegian housekeeper named Lena. They lived in Wisconsin later moving to Miami Florida. He and Lena had a child together named Donald Stanley when Wilbur was nine years of age. Also the family story is that Lena starved her husband Frank at age 81. However a family history of dementia implies that his starvation could be due to dementia.

Donald died at age 8 when Wilbur was 17 years of age and attending a military academy.

Wilbur was a gifted, elegant and kind man. Wilbur Sargent was an inventor and graduate of USC with a degree in engineering. This twice told tale of abandonment worked out well in the end. Wilbur lived a long and fruitful life and honored his committments to his family.

His beautiful daughter Shirley was an elementary school teacher for more than 25 years and his son Richard was an LA firechief for many years. All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose
