Bob Baldwin
Robert "Bob" L. Baldwin of Winchester, a well-known businessman and civic leader, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at the age of 79.
During his successful career, Mr. Baldwin was elected Cashier of the Farmers National Bank (later SunTrust Bank) where he served as secretary of the Board of Directors, loan officer, and Executive Vice President. He was a member of the Winchester First United Methodist Church for over 50 years serving on the Board of Stewards, the Administrative Board and as Treasurer. He was a delegate to the Middle Tennessee Annual Conference for three years. He was involved in many community activities and organizations, including the American Legion and the Shriners. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was Past Master of Winchester Lodge #158. He was a member of Eastern Star #196 where he was a past Worthy Patron. He served on the Winchester Housing Authority for 32 years, where he was chairman for the last few years. He was a member of the Franklin County Country Club.
Mr. Baldwin was born in McMinnville on June 25, 1925, the son of William Robert Baldwin and Nellys Cardwell Baldwin. He was educated in the public schools of Warren County and graduated from Central High School in 1943. After graduation he was inducted in the U.S. Army and served his country 36 months, which included foreign service in England, France, Belgium, Germany and the U.S. He was assigned to the U.S. Third Army under the command of Gen. George S. Patton and received credit for involvement in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in 1946 with the rating of Technical Sargent as Personnel Sargent Major of the battalion.
