MRS. JOHN SARGENT: On Tuesday, March 15th, there passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. B. Little, of Camilla, after a lingering illness, a former well-known resident of Belwood in the person of Sarah Jane McGowan, widow of the late John Sargent.
Mrs. Sargent was twice married, her first husband being Matthew Mann, of East Garafraxa. The union was blessed by three children, namely, Robert, of Hillsburg, Henry, of Galt, and Mrs. W. Clement, St. Boswell's, Sask. In 1884 she married John Sargent, and lived on lot 15, con. 7, West Garafraxa, for a number of years previous to making her home with her daughter, Mr. Sargent died in 1901. The surviving children of the union are:- Mrs. J. B. Little (Nellie) Camilla; David J. Sargent, on the Sargent homestead, Belwood. Mrs. Sargent is also survived by one brother, James McGowan, Marsville, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. D. Johnston, Belwood.
Service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Little, Camilla, on Wednesday evening, March 16th, at 8 o'clock. Rev. W. J. Booth, pastor of the deceased woman, was in charge. On Thursday the remains were conveyed to St. John's church, Belwood, where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. and was conducted by the pastor of the church, Rev. M. F. Stewart. A solo, "Face to Face," was rendered by Mr. Arthur Curtic, Camilla. The pallbearers were Merssrs. H. McKim, S. Shaw, F. Thompson, Camilla, and R. C. Hanna, W. Alexander and A. Clark, of Belwood. The flowerbearers were Rea Sargent, Jack Sargent, Russell Little and Vernon Mann, grandsons, and Earl McGowan, a nephew. The many floral tributes showed the esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment took place in McKee's cemetery. -Banner
