DUNN - Mary Elizabeth Hewgley, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Mary Liz will be fondly remembered, by all those whose lives she touched, for her endearing kindness, her loving spirit and her cheerful outlook on life. She was born on November 28, 1912, to James Marion and Margaret Corbett Hewgley in Gallatin, TN. She graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City and the University of Oklahoma where she was president of her chapter of Chi Omega Sorority. After graduating from OU in 1936, she married Herrick Babcock and moved to Tulsa. Mary Liz was active in The Children's Day Nursery, Junior League of Tulsa, the Ruskin Art Club, Colonial Dames and her beloved Tulsa Opera. She was a member of Southern Hills Country Club and her Sewing Club, which she enjoyed for 67 years. She founded the Young Men's Bridge Club of Tulsa. Mary Liz was one of the early supporters of Tulsa Opera and chaired the second Opera Ball in 1962. She was a lifetime member of the President's Council and was instrumental in the founding of Tulsa Opera Debs. Herrick (Dutch) Babcock, died in 1967 and in 1987, she married Frederick L. Dunn, Jr., also of Tulsa Mr. Dunn died in 1995.

She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Hewgley James.

We will be forever grateful to her caregivers who helped her lovingly throughout the years
