Irv was stationed in French Guiana in South America at the end of WWII in 1946. He went to the University of Washington (UW) on the GI Bill and joined the ROTC [about 1951-1953]. When he graduated from UW in 1951 he was automatically caught up in the Korean War [1952-1953] and went onto active duty. Irv earned his Combat Infantry Badge as a platoon leader before serving under fire in Korea as aide-de-camp for a general. Came home and went to work for American Red Cross. Stationed overseas in Greenland, then Germany for a few years. Spent most of his working life as the Red Cross Director in Ventura, CA. In 1963, Irv retired from the Army Reserve as a Captain.

Irving I August was born on January 16, 1927 and passed away on May 23, 2012. Irving entered into the US Army in June of 1945 and was discharged in 1946. He was an ROTC graduate from the University of Washington and served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant and Platoon Leader with the 7th Infantry Division.
Working for the American Red Cross he served in military bases throughout the Western US, in Thule, Greenland, and in Germany. He retired as the Red Cross Director for Ventura County, California. He also served as a disaster relief specialist all over the United States. He later worked for Ventura County as a veterans services officer.

Irving is survived by brothers George and Gerald, sister Lenore and three adult children.
His ashes were dispersed where wife Nancy's ashes were scattered, off the coastline of the Tulalip Indian Reservation in Washington, south of Tulalip Bay.
