Loyd Earl was the 3rd child of Carl Wilson and Beulah (Mather) Duncan. He was actually born in Long Cove, a small community North of Lometa, and raised there until his father died and his mother moved her four boys into the town of Lometa.

Loyd loved to be with his brothers every chance he got. They would fish, hunt, sit around and re-live old times, and tell jokes. There was lots of laughter.

As a young adult, after graduation from Lometa High School, Loyd contracted TB, and had to spend time in the sanitorium in San Angelo, as his dad had. But Loyd had to have his left lung removed. Later, his younger brother, Gayle would have TB and be in the same sanitorium with him.

Loyd went to Watchmakers School and learned how to repair watches. He worked for a jeweler in Big Springs, Texas for several years, and there is where he met his first wife, Gloria Byrd. Loyd and Gloria married January 18, 1957, and had 2 children, both boys, Dana Allen and Andrew "Andy".

After his divorce, he moved from Big Springs, and went to Hobbs, NM, where he worked for the Volkswagon Dealership. He lived in several places over the years. He had a restless spirit. His younger brother, Gayle would eventually join him, as they were pretty inseparable, and 'best buds'.

Loyd married again, to Mary CLAUDINE Daniels, June 10, 1969, and they had one son, Michael Gayle "Mike" Duncan.

His third marriage was to Barbara Myer in 1988. There were no children of this marriage.

Loyd retired to live at Buchanan Dam, Texas, where he worked as a golf pro, then a golf course marshall. He loved the game of golf, as did his brothers, and they meet often in Lometa, Texas at their mother's homeplace, and played golf in San Saba, or hunted and fished.

He is survived by 2 sons, Andy, and Michael, a granddaughter, and gr-granddaughter. Son, Dana Allen passed away in 2005.

Loyd died from respiratory complications following outpatient surgery at the hospital in Temple. He was cremated and his his ashes were spread on the golf course in Llano County, according to his will. His apartment faced the lake and was a constant source of happiness to him. He spoke often of how soothing it was to live there.
