Well Known Herald-Review Employe Dies After Short Illness


Funeral services for Miss Bertha Jean Knapp, 45, a solicitor in the classified advertising department of The Review and The Herald and Review for 14 years, who died in the Decatur and Macon County hospital at 3 p.m. Thursday, will be held in the Dawson & Wikoff chapel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday and in the Free Methodist church in Arcola at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Arcola cemetery.

Miss Knapp had been ill only a short time. Her death resulted from cerebral hemorrhage. Friends may call at the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home.

Born on a farm north of Arcola Feb. 19, 1891, Miss Knapp passed the early part of her life in Arcola and vicinity. She attended public schools in Arcola and following her graduation from Arcola high school was for several years employed as a clerk in the Arcola postoffice.

Miss Knapp began her employed with The Review on December 26, 1921, and had served in the classified department since that time.

She was industrious and thrifty. Some years ago Miss Knapp bought the home in 1255 North Union street, where she had lived with Miss Frances Louthan. Recently she had bought a small farm near Decatur to which she intended to more later.

Since coming to Decatur Miss Knapp had attended Grace Methodist church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was also a member of the D.A.R. and the Daughsis club.

Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew C. Knapp, preceded her in death. She leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Nettie Cooper of Homewood; L. G. Knapp of Decatur; Harrison Knapp and Former Sheriff Andrew Knapp of Tuscola, and Walter Knapp of Hindsboro.
