Charles "Chuck" Lloyd Frazier, 65, died at home in Powell on June 12, 2013, surrounded by loved ones.
Chuck was born Oct. 3, 1947, to J.A. "Al" and Esteline Frazier in Glenwood Springs, Colo. They moved to Powell in the early 1950s where he grew up with siblings Janna, Jerry and Tom. He graduated from Powell High School in 1965.
He attended Montana State University and then worked on the railroad and offshore drilling rigs before enlisting in the Army in 1969.
Chuck earned the rank of chief warrant officer two as part of the 1st of the 9th Cavalry. Serving in Vietnam 1970-71, Chuck was a fearless helicopter pilot who was described by fellow soldiers as a hero.
His decorations included the Silver Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Distinguished Flying Cross with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Soldiers Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Air Medal with numeral 3 and with Valor, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, and the Purple Heart.
Chuck returned to Powell and joined his father running Powell Ready Mix and Cody Concrete for the next 20 years. They worked on projects like raising the height of Buffalo Bill Dam, the new Sunlight Bridge and many miles of ditch lining.
In 1974 Chuck married the love of his life, Jody Allen of Powell. Through this union they were blessed with children Shawn, Jason and Kaela.
Chuck loved adventure and doing things that hadn't been done before – like flying his ultra-lite under the Willwood Bridge and landing on Main Street in Frannie to have a cup of coffee with the Simpsons. He loved to fly, whether it was in the air in his ultra-lite or on the ground with his cars and dirt bikes. He also enjoyed scuba diving and firearms.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association and the Vietnam Helicopter Crew Members Association.
Survivors include his wife Jody, daughter Shawn (Ben) Hubbard and grandchildren Caiden Gehrts and Callum Hubbard, son Sgt. 1st Class Jason Frazier, daughter Kaela (Trevor) Nelson and grandchildren Jordyn and Connor, and brothers Jerry and Tom (Margie) Frazier.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and sister Janna Frazier Harkrider.
