Ona May ( Benton ) Franklin

KINGSPORT - Ona May (Benton) Franklin, 98, of Kingsport, passed away after an extended illness Friday evening (April 30, 2004) at the home of her daughter and son-in-law where she had made her home for the past 10 years.

She was born in Scott County , Va. , on April 8, 1906 to the late Henry Bascom Benton and the late Nora Moore Benton . She lived in Scott County and Sullivan County all of her life. Before marriage she worked at the Gate City Hosiery Mill.

She was a member of the Gate City United Methodist Church . She loved to work in her flower garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Carl E. Franklin; her parents, Henry Bascom Benton and Nora Moore Benton; a brother, Edguar S. Benton; and a sister, Mabel Shuman.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Shuman officiating.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Holston View Cemetery , Weber City , Va.

Pallbearers will be David Cain, Ralph Meade, Donnie Summey, Jimmy Fleanor, Sherman Franklin, Mike Franklin, Jefferey Franklin, Jimmy Franklin and Ronnie Franklin.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is serving the Franklin family.
