Sargent Shaw and his brother Ebenezer were members of the first Congregational church ever organized in Standish; he was also the first constable of that town.

He settled upon a farm of one hundred acres, in Standish, deeded to him by his father, and which is now owned and occupied by his great-grandson, Ralph Shaw.

By occupation Mr. Shaw was a cooper, and also an energetic and prosperous farmer.

He was a man much respected by his fellow townsmen, of unswerving christian principle and fervent piety.
