She was employed as a time keeper for the defense plant of Warner Swayze, during World War II in Cleveland, Ohio, and retired from J & L Steel Inc., Canton, Ohio, as a key punch operator. Her retirement years were spent joyfully devoting all of her time and attention to her family, whom she deeply loved. She was a member of the Canton Temple Church of God, where she was involved in many different ministries including Sunday school superintendent, for nursery and prescool children. Her membership was moved to Landmark Church of God in the 1980s, when she and her husband moved to Statesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Hendricks; and her son, Robert A. Hendricks; and brothers, Simon, Leslie and Wilbur Moore.
She spent the last two years in close relationship with her sister, Betty, who gave of herself unselfishly out of great sisterly love, and to provide excellent care of Vada. She is survived by sisters, Betty Perdue Campbell, and Ruth Treadway; and brother, Paul Moore; son, Jack and wife, Debbie Hendricks, of Brooksville, Fla.; and daughter, Carolyn and husband, Walter Garner, of Statesville; brother-in-law, John Kuhn, of Indiana.; six grandchildren, Martin Hendricks, Synthia Hendricks Cain, Aundria Hendricks King, Kelly Garner Yates, Robin Garner, Robert T. Hendricks.; and seven great- grandchildren, and two great-great-grand-children.
Services celebrating Vada's life will be conducted Monday, at 2:30 p.m. at the Landmark Church of God. Viewing will be held 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. The Revs. Kenneth Hudson, and Ben Black will officiate. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Landmark Church of God, 220 East Broad St., Statesville, NC 28628.
