William Power “Bill” MacLean, 96, passed away in Irvington Sunday, Nov 02, 2008. He was born in Taunton, Massachusetts Jun 12, 1912. He was the widower of Margaret Crawford MacLean and was predeceased by his daughter, Debbie Engermann.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Birtz and her husband Robert of Pocasset, Massachusetts, and Lynne McMurtrie and her husband Jerry of Deltaville; son-in-law, Jim E. Engermann of Raynham, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; T.G. McMurtrie and his wife Jenny of Deltaville, Tracy McMurtrie Luck and her husband Larry of Williamsburg, Kelly McMurtrie Thomas and her husband Wayne of Hardyville, Darren McMurtrie and his wife Jennifer of San Francisco, California, Susan Vaughn and her husband Philip Chase of Needham, Massachusetts, and Jim Vaughn and his wife Stephanie of Jackson Hights, NY; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. MacLean was educated in Taunton schools, graduated from the University of Illinois and from Boston University. He devoted his professional life to education, teaching and coaching at Taunton High School, serving as principal of Weir Grammar School and Cohannet School, as assistant superintendent and then superintendent of Taunton Schools.
A memorial mass will be held at the Church of the Visitation at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. Interment will be with his wife in Taunton, Massachusetts, at a future date. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Church of the Visitation Building Fund, P.O. Box 38, Topping, VA 23169. Funeral arrangements are by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Saluda.
