John Christianson, July 25, 1927 - October 27, 1997

John, given the name of Christian August John Christianson at birth, was born July 25, 1927. He was the son of Gudbjartur Theodore and Gudrun (Hannesson) Christianson. John attended grade school and graduated from Upham High School in May 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946, stationed in the Philippines as a CB. When he was discharged he accepted employment with Motor Express Trucking Co., at Watford City. In 1954, John went to work for the Agriculture Soil Conservation office at Watford City.

John met Jean Jacobson at Larson's Drug, where she was an employee. John became a steady customer at the coffee bar at Larson's Drug. They were united in marriage in March 1956 at Beach, N.D.

John and his family moved to Sidney, MT in 1963 where John formed a partnership in Bi-Sate Adjustment Company. They returned to their home in Watford City in the fall of 1964. John accepted employment with the McKenzie County Credit Union for a period of six years. He was past director of the Credit Union Board. In 1969 he was appointed to the position of Veterans Officer of McKenzie County.

John was a honorary fireman, past Chief Fireman, past member of the Eagles, American Legion Carl E. Rogen Post #29, V.F.W. member, Assn. of Commerce, director of the Red Cross Board, Selective Service Board, and Co-op Supply Lumber Co. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

In 1965 John and Jean opened an upholstery shop in their home. Jean passed away on October 13, 1973.

On July 27, 1976, John married Olive Rogness in Elko, Nevada. They continued to make their home in Watford City. John retired in 1989. John and Olive enjoyed their retirement years vacationing at Hart Ranch, and their winter home in Arizona. John enjoyed woodworking and visiting with his extended family.

John died Monday, October 27, 1997, at Med Center I in Bismarck. He is survived by his wife Olive, sons, Greg Christianson and Tim Christianson and his wife Karin, all of Watford City; grandchildren Cassie Tangedal, Jamie, Angela, and Annie Mae Christianson; stepchildren Leroy and Aleta Rogness of Plymouth, MN and Rosalie Bernhagen of Dallas, TX, 2 step-grandchildren, Tina Garman and Tim Rogness; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Skyler and Tanner Garman; four brothers, Russell of Jamestown, ND, Theodore of Upham, ND, Joe of Olympia, WA, and Walter of Mesa, AZ, and three sisters, Ellen Miller of Mesa, AZ, Victoria Torr of Minot, ND, and Ann Gulbranson of Saginaw, MI.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, daughter, Jackie Tangedal and baby Margaret, a sister, Christine; and a brother, Freeman.

Funeral - Friday at 2 p.m., in First Lutheran Church, Watford City.
