A progressive and successful farmer, became a resident of Cass county, Indiana, about 1843. Later removed to Carroll county and in 1860 to Washington county. Here he settled on a tract of land in Washington township, east of Buck Creek, and improved a farm. He owned a very desirable homestead of 120 acres. John Hornady was a man of prominence in his community and held the office of justice of the peace, as well as other minor positions. He died at his old home in 1885.
