WINDBER — CUSTER – Clarence R. "Doc," 92, Windber, died April 5, 2013, at Windber Hospice. Born Nov. 6, 1920, in Windber, son of the late Henry O. and Beulah (Gittings) Custer. Also preceded in death by daughter, Rotha; son, Raymond C. Custer; grandsons Matthew and Nicholas Updegraff; brother, Merritt "Jim" Custer; and sisters, Janet and Lorene. Survived by son, Russell (Sharon) Custer, and daughter, Roxanne (Harold) Updegraff, both of Windber. Survived by six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Robin (Doug) Serwon, Ranae (Todd) Blanks and Rod (Carrie) Delasko; and four stepgrandchildren. Also survived by former wife, Lucy V. Hadix, Newport News, Va. Veteran of World War II, serving with Signal Corps 13/32nd Qtrmaster, Fort Meade, Md. Retired coal miner, steelworker and county assessment officer. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. David McGee will officiate. Private interment Richland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Windber Hospice in Doc's memory.
