CAPT. HENRY W. WARD DIED ON THURSDAY

Passed Away In Local Hospital After Year's
Illness

MOST YEARS OF LIFE SPENT ON THE WATER

Captain Henry W. Ward, one of the most
highly esteemed residents of Crisfield,
died at the McCready Memorial Hospital
in Crisfield at five o'clock Thursday morning
from a complication of diseases.
Captain Henry had been in ill health for
about a year but had been able to get out
and around town until about two weeks ago,
when his condition became much worse and he
was taken to the hospital for treatment.

He was born Jan. 4th, 1872. and
was 67 years of age.

For most of the years of his life Captain Henry
followed the water, and was one of the most
successful boat owners and operators in the
community. He was a kindly man, and in the
course of his career built up strong and
enduring friendships in his community and all
along the watercourses where his business as
a dredger and later, as the operator of
freighting boats took him.

A man of high ideals, his word was his bond,
his dealings just, and his character and
everyday life exemplary. For many years he
was a member of Immanuel M. E. Church and
enjoyed worshipping there as well as
contributing liberally to the various
religious causes.

Quiet and unassuming, sturdy in body, honest
in the minutest detail, having a thorough
knowledge of his business, his services were
always in demand, and his business dealings
energetically and satisfactorily carried out.
Probably the contributing factor to his ill
health, and finally, his death, was exposure
to the elements in making trips with
merchandise to and from all parts of the
Chesapeake Bay and beyond, for it was the
nature of the man to carry out his contracts
under any and all conditions.

Funeral services will be held from his late
home on Somerset Avenue, Sunday afternoon
at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. J. R. Bicking,
the pastor of Immanuel M. E.,Church, officiating.

Captain Ward is survived by his widow, four
daughters, Mrs. Nellie Parks, of Crisfield;
Mrs. Mary Price, of Kingston; Mrs. Esther
Massey, of Kingston; Miss Sarah Ward, of
Crisfield; and four sons, William H. Ward,
of Deltaville, Va.; John T. Ward, of Deltaville,
Va.; Howard Ward and Maurice Ward, of
Crisfield. Two sisters, Mrs. Elisha T. Riggin,
and Miss Clark Ward, of Crisfield, and
fourteen grandchildren, also survive.
