Mary Ester Leydens, 85, of Keosauqua died at 5:25 pm Thursday June 20, 2013 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.

She was born Aug. 5, 1927 in the White community between Birmingham and Douds to Rilla and Mary Ranard Pool and married Ray E. Leydens May 1, 1947 in the little brown church, Nashua. He died April 17, 1995. Ester attended White School and later earned her GED certificate.

She was a farm homemaker, had worked at Universal Producing Co., Fairfield and operated her own cake and candle business and enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Surviving are four daughters, Teresa Palm(Robert)of Fairfield, Janice Wright of Moravia, Connie Wineinger of Fairfield and Deanne Thornburg(Danny)of Keosauqua, four grandchildren, Kim Richardson(Pat), Karrie Wright, Aaron Palm and Lori Palm, Five Great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Joe, Willson, Roscoe, Frank Colin and Robert Pool and Four sisters, Jessie Schleeter, Erma Hootman, Juanita Pool and Caroline Channel.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday June 24, 2013 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, Pstor Danny Cary officiating. Visitation will open at 3 pm Sunday at the funeral home with family present 5-7 pm. Gifts to a memorial to be established later by the family may be left at the funeral home.
