Services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Henderson Funeral home in Toledo for Oren Swartz, 74 formerly of the Gladbrook area who died on Monday, July 5 at the Tama County Home where he had been a resident several years. The Rev. Paul DeVos, pastor of the Tama Baptist church conducted the service. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Soucek, northwest of Traer, were in charge of flowers. The hymn "Rock of Ages" was played by Mrs. M. R. Thompson , organist. Pallbearers were Joe Barger, Richard Stauffer, Arlo Sienknecht, Paul Swartz, Leonard and Lester Wilson. Interment was in the Grant township cemetery.
Oren Swartz was born July 19, 1890 in Grant township, Tama county, the son of William Henry and Mary Case Swartz. He was married to Effie Houghton who preceded him in death several years ago. The couple farmed in the Gladbrook community after their marriage, until his death failed. He is survived by a son William Swartz of Marshalltown, two daughter, Mrs. Arlo(Opal) Sienknecht of Graner and Mrs. Joe (Eva) Barger of Independence, Iowa and by eight grandchildren and on great grandchild.
