Alice died at Mariner Health Care. She was born the daughter of the late John and Rosa Armstrong Stansell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stacey B. McGowan; a daughter, Patricia Irene McGowan; a sister, Louise Stansell Ross; and a great-granddaughter, Rebekah Lynn Gentry. Mrs. McGowan was a member of St. Andrews On-the-Sound Episcopal Church. She retired from Belk-Beery after twenty-five years. She also was the manager of Breezeland Apartments at Wrightsville Beach for many years and was a former employee of Carolina Yacht Club.
Mrs. McGowan was a member of the "Happy Hens." She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy McGowan Paul, a son, Donald W. McGowan, all of Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren, Kristin Duncan (Ben), Bradford McGowan (and their mother, Yvonne Easterling), Deborah Paul, Shelley Slusser (John), Nannette Paul and Lucretia Newkirk (Haywood); five great-grandchildren, Krishna Williams (Paul), Leah K. Gentry, Victoria Walls, Cameron McGowan and Noah Lee Duncan; and two great-great-grandchildren, Emily Grace Williams and Walker Bryson Williams.
