Born in Fountain Inn, S.C., he attended Wofford College (Class of 1936), where he was a member of Blue Key, and played offense and defense end for the Terriers. In World War II he flew B-17's and B-29's for the Army Air Force and became a lieutenant colonel. He subsequently flew for Eastern Airlines from 1946 to 1975.
He was devoted to his family, his Airedales, and the United Methodist Church. Mr. Abercrombie is survived by his wife, Sarah Lee Vaughan Abercrombie; a son, Ab, III; and a sister, Nell Saye of Fountain Inn.
A brief memorial service will be held today, Nov. 11, 2004, at 3:30 p.m. at Cannon Memorial Park in Fountain Inn, with the Rev. Dr. Talmage Skinner officiating.
The family requests no food or flowers. Donations may be made to Wofford Wesley Fellowship, Chaplain's Office, 429 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29303.
