Born in Pike Co, James was the son of the late Ferrell and Viola Hamilton King. He was a carpenter and a veteran of World War II. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou King, a grandson, Zane King and three brothers: Frank, Ira, and Kenneth King.

Survivors include:

Four sons: James Nathan King of Lexington,KY, Kelvin Carson (Peggy) King of Lexington, NC, Calvin Arson (Betty)King of Nicholasville, KY and Ralph Ian (Rebecca) King of Pikeville

Two daughters: Amelia Sharon (Melvin) Cole of Salyersville,KY and Veda Louella (Doug) McIntire of Colorado Springs, CO

Four brothers: David King of Pikeville, Tom King of Grayson,KY, Wilburn King of Pikeville, and Leo King of Thelma,KY

Four sisters: Ethel May Stanley of Waterford, MI, Gladys Blankenship of Raccoon,KY, Mag Conley of Huntington, IN and June May of Somerset, OH
