John "Jay" James Colson, 26, of Route 215, formerly of Somerville, died Sunday of an apparent heart attack while working.

He was born in Rockland, son of Carleton K. and Katherine Ann Brann Colson, graduated from Somerville School in 1984, attended Erskine Academy in South China for three years, and received his GED diploma later.

During the past eight years, Mr. Colson was a self-employed sea urchin diver, clammer, and worm digger.

He lived most of his life in Somerville.

He was engaged to marry Hollie Cote of Newcastle.

Surviving are his father of Oakland; his mother and stepfather, Katherine A. and Chris Crowley of Fairfield; a son, Levi James Colson of Newcastle; maternal grandmother, Frances Brann of Somerville; and maternal great-grandmother, Julia Thurston of Jefferson.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gray & Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor Neck Road, Windsor. The Rev. Warner Howard will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Jefferson.
