Fred was born at Freeport, Ill., Feb. 18, 1866 and passed from this life at Glendale Calif., March 11, 1918.

When he was 18 years old he came to Iowa and settled at Cherokee, coming to Sioux County in 1886. He was married two years later to Charlotte Frazier.

Mr. Brandt had been in poor health from hardening of the arteries for the past three years, and he was accustomed to seek a warmer climate during the winter months. Last fall he went to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he spent a few weeks, going from there to Glendale, California. He was feeling as well as usual until about three days before his death, when he suffered a paraletic stroke, from which he never recovered.

His family was notified and his son, Fred, left at once and arrived at Glendale in time to see his father alive. His other son, Edward, who was at Camp Dodge also hastened to his father's bedside and arrived there before he had passed away.

Besides his wife he leaves to mourn three children, Fred, Edward and Mrs. Richard Moeller. The family lived on a farm south of Rock Valley for about thirty years.

Among those from a distance who were at the funeral were Mrs. Bliss and daughter and Mrs. Gemmels, the two ladies being sisters of the deceased, and his step-mother, of Sioux Falls, and two brothers, Edward of Sioux Falls and Lewis of Huron, S.D., Mrs. Lamb of Lennox, S.D., Miss Amanda Blackburn of Aurelia, Ia., and Miss Rhoda Meyers of Sioux City, nieces of Mrs. Brandt and Mrs. Blackburn of Aurelia and Mrs. Meyers of Garnett, Kansas, sisters of Mrs. Brandt.

The large attendance at the funeral and the many beautiful floral tributes were evidence of the high esteem in which the deceased was held in this community. The I.O.O.F. Lodge of which order Mr. Brandt was a member, had charge of the funeral services, and the sermon was delivered by Rev. Douma.
