John M. Linde Jr., 30, San Antonio, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, in a bomb attack in the Gaza Strip in the Middle East.He was killed when a remote-controlled bomb exploded under a three-car U.S. diplomatic convoy.The blast occurred Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. local time as embassy personnel were en route to interview Palestinian professors and students for a work-study program in the United States.Mr. Linde, a bodyguard employed by a private company, DynCorp, was policing the convoy when he and two other bodyguards were killed.He was born Aug. 10, 1973, in Washington, the son of John Linde Sr. and Frances Boland, nee Gibbs.Mr. Linde was a 1993 graduate of Washington High School.He served his country in the U.S. Marines for 10 years. He attained the rank of sergeant.Mr. Linde is survived by his wife, Courtney Linde, San Antonio, Texas; his father, John Linde Sr. and wife Judy, Washington; his mother, Fran Boland and husband Tom, Washington; two sisters, Kim Jasper and husband Ben, New Haven, and Jennifer Hawkinson and husband Joe, Washington; six stepsisters, Beth Dellsanta and husband Brett, Columbus, Ohio, Patti Welsch and husband Russ, Tustin, Calif., Angela Breeden and husband Jeff, Union, Katrina Jones, New Haven, Denise Bizenberger and husband Kurt, Trenton, Ill., and Selena Jean, Washington; his grandparents, E.C. Hackleman, De Soto, and Nick and Sue Wilhems, Hartford City, Ind.; other relatives and many friends.Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 25, at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with the Rev. Jack Costello officiating.Interment was private.Memorials to the John M. Linde Jr. Scholarship Fund are preferred.The Linde family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
