R.T. Sparks, 85, of Rydal died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008.

Mr. Sparks was born Feb. 19, 1923, in Cherokee County, a son of the late Lud and Bertha Holder Sparks. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a retired service station owner.

Preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Pearson Sparks, he is survived by his children, Bertha Ann and Randy Isbell of Cartersville, Barbara and James Potts of Kingston, Robert Sparks and Larry Sparks, both of Rydal, Joyce and Greg Gardner of Rydal, Wayne Sparks of Coosa, Harold and Margie Sparks of Adairsville, and Sue and Leon Tant of Cartersville; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Pearl McCoy of Shannon, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Healthfield Hospice for all their help.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, from the Oak Hill Baptist Church cemetery near Rydal with Pastor Greg Gardner to speak. Full military graveside rites will follow.

Pallbearers will be Jerry and Tony Potts, Larry James Sparks Jr., Mickey Ray, Jody and Logan Tant, Michael McFarland and Issac Gardner.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
